LTO Archive

What is LTO?

Linear Tape Open (LTO) is a trusted and time-tested archival solution.

In this digital age, safeguarding your valuable data is paramount, and LTO tape has emerged as the go-to choice for businesses and organizations seeking reliable, scalable, and cost-effective data storage solutions.

Benefits We Provide

Long Lasting

LTO is shelf stable and rated to provide reliable data storage for up to 30 years when stored under ideal conditions.

Secure

LTO tape exists 'offline', providing an air gap against malware, ransomware, and would be data thieves. LTO also provides support for AES-256 encryption and Tamperproof WORM (Write Once Read Many) tape cartridges ensuring your data remains immutable.

Futureproof

First introduced in 2000 and offering 100GB of storage per tape, LTO is now on its 9th generation technology offering a staggering 18TB of raw data per tape. As the name implies, LTO is an open standard ensuring interoperability between different vendors' LTO tape drives and cartridges and giving users the flexibility to choose from various suppliers and preventing vendor lock-in

Scalable

LTO tapes offer infinite "linear scalability" due to their self-contained design. Adding more tapes to the archive does not require the presence of all the other tapes and each tape can be used and accessed individually. Drive arrays, by comparison, have a "dependent scalability" as they rely on all connected drives to be present and accessible for the array to function correctly.

Interoperability

Linear Tape File System (LTFS) is an open software specification allowing tapes to be read and written to with drag and drop simplicity on any supported operating system.

Media
Deliverables

Many media companies, especially those involved in content creation, broadcasting, post-production, and archiving, often require LTO deliverables for long-term data storage and archival purposes.

These deliverables often come with custom instruction sets and unique metadata requirements. Our team will help you parse through these delivery schedules to ensure compliance and meet your fulfillment needs.

How It Works

Step 1

Fill out an Estimate Request form here indicating how much data you need transferred and how many copies you need along with all other instructions.

Step 2

Send us your data on a hard drive or upload via our Signiant MediaShuttle Submit Portal (for orders 10TB and under).

Step 3

We create your LTO tapes. Your order will be invoiced and upon receipt of payment your tapes will be delivered to you or a destination of your choosing along with any requested metadata.

Step 4

A manifest of your archived files will be registered in our online database and stored for your reference.

TURNAROUND

Once your data is onboarded please allow 1 business day per 10TB of data for LTO layoff.
Time required for onboarding is dependent upon speed of data source.
